Dreaming with butterflies

As I’m sitting in the sun a butterfly zips my way and hits me in the back of my head, it’s a surprisingly big thump for such a delicate light insect.

It is night and I am sitting in the sand, I hear the surf close by but I don’t see it. He is here too I can feel it, I don’t see his face but it is him I can feel his smile, although that doesn’t make any sense.

He is right here but I miss him so much it’s painful. He is standing right next to me but I still miss him. And then, there’s the butterfly, again.

A butterfly in the night.

Then I wake and it’s my cat begging for food.

There are four us, no! Three of us around the table, I am the only women of the three. I look around, we are at a mall, but it seems to quiet and to small to be a mall . . . There is no one else. I have a strange feeling, like Alice in Wonderland, I feel we are underground, in an alternative world. I cannot shake that feeling.
As I eat he leans over silently and gives me bread and shrimp. It is what he is eating and I haven’t asked for it, but he gives it to me anyways.

Meaning of the dream, as food or the gift of food:

Food being served by a waiter, indicates you are a spiritual healer (hands-on healer) as food is the energy source that sustains us throughout our lives.

Gifts in dreams are normally given by guides. Being given a gift symbolizes you were bestowed with a special gift at birth. The specific ability may or may not be indicated by the gift itself but it will be shown by other symbols in the same dream.

Other dream interpretations insist on a more metaphorical treatment of food. Because food is a form of energy or nourishment, dream meanings of food are naturally extended to spiritual and mental areas of your life as well. What this means is that if you are having dreams about food too often, it may be because you are seeking nourishment in other areas of your life. Food dreams are most commonly associated with religion in this regard, in a form of spiritual nourishment. Some would suggest that if you are having too many dreams about food, you may have not gone to your chosen place of spiritual worship often enough. Perhaps this means it is time to go to church next Sunday when you can get a chance.

Another interpretation of this is on a mental level. You need to challenge yourself more intellectually and the food is there to show you that. Feeding your mind is just as important as feeding your body, and the minute that you stop actively challenging yourself is the minute that you start to have your intelligence decrease. You need to show some upkeep with your intellectual processes. The body only needs one type of food to function, but the mind needs many more, of a physical and non physical variety. If you dream about food too often, then there is a part of you that is not being fed the way it should. It is up to you to figure out what part of yourself needs the most help.

Psychological Dream Meaning: Food represents the qualities we take into ourselves and for Sigmund Freud it symbolized sexuality. (see Eating) The different types of food you dream about can symbolize a variety of things: Fruit can symbolize sensuality but it can also represent the receiving of rewards or abundance. To dream of bitter fruits such as lemons may indicate that you feel bitterness about a situation or person influencing your life. Perhaps it’s you that has the sour attitude? Milk can symbolize human kindness, sugar sweet words and frozen food may indicate that you have frozen emotions. There are thousands of possible qualities symbolized by food. You will need to examine what your personal associations are with the food featured in your dream. For example, Freud considered that chocolate or any luxurious food represented self-reward. Do you get a feeling of guilt when you look at a fattening cream cake and could it therefore represent guilt in your dreams.

Mystical Interpretation: Since the times of the Ancient Greeks to dream of food was interpreted in sexual terms. Peaches and other succulent fruits stood for lasciviousness, while others such as pomegranates symbolized fertility. It was an apple the caused Adam and Eve to be booted out of Eden. Food such as bread symbolized a more restrained, fertility-orientated sexuality and many primitive cultures believe that if you eat meat you will take on the spiritual qualities of that particular animal.
