Black Mirror

Do you remember the Black Mirror episode White Christmas? The one with Jon Hamm in it. If you haven’t seen it I’m about to spoil the ending. Hamm’s character is convicted to a “free” life within society but condemned to live it in isolation. Due to artificial implants in everybody’s eyes his vision and everybody else’s is altered. As part of his sentence he sees others as gray figures and others see him as a red figure, living within society, coming and going freely but unable to truly interact with others.

Now my dream. In a society where technology is integrated within the human body my mother is a Luddite, therefore my eyes are just regular, non-technology integrated, human eyes. I can see everybody, I can see him. I do.

He is my neighbor I see him and I wave at him, I walk towards him with a smile, he seems surprised. – You can see me? – I looked at him, he is attractive, older than me maybe a few years.  – Of course, you are standing right in front of me. – I explain to him that I don’t have implants in my eyes, thanks to my mom, so I can see him fine.

We talk, we laugh, we go out to dinner and it doesn’t go well. People looks at us in a weird way, they can see he’s been sentenced, how do I recognize him? How can I even see him? In their small, well-trained minds they cannot see, because they cannot understand.

Days pass, not so much in isolation since now there is me to talk to. We are neighbors, we are friends and then we are lovers. – Are you not afraid of me? – He asks me one day in bed, while he holds me and run his hand through my hair. – I researched you. Dating advise gone wrong? You were selfish, chose to cover yourself instead of coming forth and maybe saving a life. You decided not to act. I don’t think you are actively dangerous to me, aggressive, you won’t harm me. Maybe simply not act. –

Days continue to pass and we continue to be in each other’s life. We seem happy together but I ask him (and myself) why is he with me? I know the answer, because there is nobody else. I am his entire world, but this doesn’t seem to bother him, he smiles and tells me – You can see me with more than your eyes. –

Vampire dreams

What if you were a newly bitten vampire?

What if you had to kill somebody and drink their blood?

What if you refused to kill and would be killed in response?

Well, I was a vampire and I had to kill somebody and drink their blood or I would have been killed myself. I walked in darkness through shadows, talked in whispers and spy from afar both humans and vampires.

To dream that you are a vampire signifies that you are sucking in the life energy of others for your own selfish benefit.

We are at a table, maybe a long desk, but I cannot see the room or anything else. He sits at my left and I can see the back of his head, his neck as he looks down at my hand.
He holds my right hand over a white sheet of paper and with a pencil he contours my hand.

Dreaming of our hands is actually not as common as many other parts of the body, but when we do dream of our hands or another’s, it often seems to have an unusually strong significance.  Dreaming of hands is often a sign of self awareness, of taking control of our own life and destiny, or or of making an impact through our own actions on another person or the world around us at large.  The unusual act of actually looking at your own hands in a dream is used by some to achieve lucidity, that is, to realize that they are actually dreaming.

Our own hands in dreams are often taken for granted, many times simply functioning as tools which we use to make things happen, though we tend to focus more on the action and result than how we made this happen.  If we stop long enough to notice our hands in our dreams, it can be a sign that we are becoming aware of our own influence, or lack of it.  Dreaming of another person’s hands can often feel very intimate.  The two profound symbols of another’s hands in a positive context are of “holding hands” and of the “helping hand.”  Both of these images require us to let someone else into our lives, to be open to love, affection, consideration or assistance. For this reason, hand dreams can leave us with a lingering feeling of happiness and warmth long into the day.  These dreams may indicate that we are receiving assistance, affection or support from another in a waking life, but in many cases they are a symbolic representation that we are learning how to help our selves, that we are being kind to our selves where once we may have been a harsh judge, that we are befriending a part of ourselves that once we may have ignored or rejected, or even that we are healing a part of ourselves that once was sick and neglected.

In my mind

He lives in my mind, the pain lives here too.
Every good and bad memory, every soft touch and every harsh word.
He lives within time, still and fluid, clear and  . . . not so clear.
He makes me cry, he makes me sigh, he makes me dream.
Dreams that turn into nightmares.
He lives in my waking time, he lives in my sleep, he lives in the empty space next to me.
He is trapped in my mind and I am trapped here too.

Zombie Apocalypse

A strange kind of apocalypse, a silent one, a deserted one. The crisp cool morning air under a light blue sky as I walk down the street.
I enter a store, and then . . . suddenly a low rumble reverberates through the store. It hits me then, I was alone, utterly alone in the zombie-land.

Often when dreaming of Zombies the theme is a “Zombie Apocalypse”. You may have an apocalyptic dream when dealing with a major transition or life changing event because life, as you currently know it, is coming to an end. You may be feeling lost and unsure about the future. Some part of you has “died” and yet you still survive – the world as you know it is coming to an end, but you continue to breathe and fear what the future will bring.
